Missouri Farmers
Working as good stewards to grow Missouri's economy and provide a safe, abundant, affordable food supply for your family and ours.
The goal of Missouri Agriculture's Lunch and Learn Series is to spread knowledge about Missouri agriculture and the impact livestock and crops have on our rural economies. This series also highlights the important connection between livestock and row crops, as well as the relationship between the growing biofuels industry and the state's animal agriculture industry.

It’s not often you see a crowded tent of people near a hog farm, but that was the scene at Pleasant Hill Farm in Barnett, Mo., on July 24, 2008. Tables and chairs were full of guests at a Lunch and Learn event hosted by Nacey and Charlie Long. Among those in attendance were state Senator Carl Vogel and state Representatives Kenny Jones, and Rodney Schad.
Attendees were fed a delicious pulled pork lunch and educated about the important role pork producers play in the local economy.
The Longs talked about their business relationship they have with Cargill. They are contract growers for Cargill, meaning they provided the facilities and labor and Cargill provides the pigs. The Longs noted they had been part-time farmers before becoming full time growers and their business arrangement with Cargill allowed them the opportunity to work on the farm full-time.
